How can we help the environment in Bali?

July 2017

Bali is a beautiful island and it’s no surprise that it attracts so many people from all across the globe. However the main problem this island is facing is the growing trash pollution on and around Bali. It can be pretty depressing seeing the amounts of trash on the beaches, in the ocean and in the rivers – especially if it has been raining. At our camp we do what we can not to add to the growing problem by providing non-plastic straws, offering refillable water bottles and the use of reusable bags free of charge for guests when they go shopping.

Basic Bahasa

July 2017

The Indonesian language, Bahasa Indonesian was introduced in 1945 after Indonesia’s declaration of independence. It is, therefore, a very young language and various slangs have developed very quickly, especially in the larger cities.

At school, the children learn their island language plus Bahasa Indonesian, a bit like we learn a foreign language.

The language is very simple. There are no articles and the verbs are not declined in tenses. Balinese is, on the other hand, a completely different language, which has nothing in common with Bahasa Indonesian. It is still spoken all over Bali and, with its three levels, it is very complex.

SURF WEAR

May 2017

Yes, surfing does look cool (if you’re doing it right). But the journey can be long to get to the point where wipeouts are rare and messing up your duck dives is a thing of the past. It might look easy but remember it is still a sport and takes a lot of practice. In the meantime, while you’re trying to get to that level why don’t I save you some embarrassment of returning to the beach in nothing but your birthday suit.
