BALI SURF CAMP BALANGAN

bali surf camp balangan

You’re looking for idyllic beaches with perfect waves ?
The sound of the sea as your lullaby?

Just drop into the eat-sleep-surf-rhythm with one of the world’s best surf regions on your own doorstep: far from the madding crowds and shopping malls, we have only one thing in mind: surfing, and nothing else!

Here in the remote Southern region of the island it’s the ideal place for ‘overworked’ surfers to unwind. But on the other hand, it’s just a 40-minute drive to the hot spot Kuta, where you can shop and party as much as you like.

The Surf Camp Hotel is situated directly on the cliffs of Balangan Beach, on the Balinese peninsula of Bukit. One of Bali’s longest left-hander breaks over the reef at the foot of the cliffs on to a wonderful white sandy beach with palm groves.

Our Balangan Camp is the ultimate training camp for beginners, intermediates and advanced surfers to dedicate themselves to surfing at our home break. Mobility is a big thing at Kima. There are guided tours to the various surf spots round Bali and Bukit up to 12 times a day (Mon. – Fri.).This way, we can ensure that every surfer (intermediate and advanced) can ride on the right wave at the right time. Even beginners can surf in and around Balangan at low swell and high tide, as long as you’re not afraid of the reef.

However, if you prefer to be out and about on your own, or want to go clubbing at night, you’re free to use our jeeps or mountain bikes. If you don’t want to drive yourself, there’s always a driver to take you where you want to go – shopping, to the spa or the next supermarket – just check with us.

THE TEAM

bali surfcamp balangan team

In 1989 it was "Pencak Silat", a type of martial arts, that brought Ari to a training camp in Indonesia, where he was supposed to be preparing for competitions in the homeland of this old Malaysian martial arts. However, it wasn't long before he got hooked on something completely different.......surfing, and also the enchanting way and mentality of the people here. And so the idea of a Bali Surfari was born. The years that followed saw him laying the foundations for the first German-speaking Surf Camp along with his best mate, Boris.

Kima has now been organising Surf Camps and Surfaris since 1995. Of course lots of things have changed since then, but one thing still remains: it's a get-together of like-minded people with the one and the same passion - surfing as a life-style.

Our  team is Ari (Campmaster), Natasha, Roland and Tano (Office and Communication), Anke (E-Text Editor), Conny and Joko (Camp Management) as well as our international permanent Surf Guides: Fery (ID), Conrad (CDN), Putu (ID), Leo (BRA), Kacrut (ID) Lars (DEU), Lolak (ID), Josh (USA), John (GBR), Dika (ID) und Bobby (ID).  And of course we have our other experienced “wandering”  guides from all over the world: Matt (USA), Thomas (DEU), Francisco (VEN), Fred (GBR), Freddy (DEU), Urs (CH), Gerhard (AUT), Lennart (DEU), Tim (USA).

And of course, not to forget our competent drivers, Made and Putu and Robby & Rosita and the rest of the service team of Balangan Surf Camp !!

We all have one commitment: working hard to make the idea of the Bali Surf Camp  an unforgettable experience for you.

SURF GUIDING

BALI SURF GUIDING BALANGAN

Kima Bali Surf Camp’s big plus is that surf guiding is inclusive!

Monday to Friday we organise up to twelve trips for all surf levels to various breaks all round Bali. What this means is that you can take part in at least two and a maximum of three guided sessions per day. At the weekend you can join one of the inland Culture and Sport Trips organised by Kima Bali Surf Camps.

We head for the various surf spots in small groups at different levels - depending on the tide, swell and wind conditions.

Our guides are all trained in life-saving, they’re familiar with the island, drive safely and can give you competent briefing on the spot.  Here they’ll point out the characteristics of reef surfing or any possible hazards. The guides always surf with you in the water, giving you tips and showing you tricks. Twice a week the sessions are filmed so that the analysis afterwards can help you identify the mistakes you’re making and correct them.

No joke: bed to beach in just 2 minutes - just make your way down to the fantastic Balangan beach, where one of Bali’s longest left-handers breaks and, if the swell is big enough, there may well be one or two tube sections as well. The sheer length of this wave means that it has several starting points, as well as varied sections – in a word, everything the surfer heart desires: whether steep or simple drops, sharp faces or smooth longboard sections, there’s something for everyone. Even advanced surfers can learn something here.

BALI SURF GUIDING BALANGAN

Dreamlands semi-beach breaks are perfect spots for intermediate and advanced surfers and can be reached on foot if the tide’s out or paddled if the tide’s high. Apart from an A-frame peak there’s a simpler left- and right-hander and a fun shore break.

If you’ve done your homework you’ll know that all the spots from Balangan to Uluwatu are in the same bay, all connected by one and the same road. They’re ideal for intermediate and advanced surfers. From April to November constant south-west swells and off-shore winds ensure perfect waves, loads of point breaks and tubes. This way there’s always something on our daily surf schedule for our intermediate and advanced surfers: reef or sand substrate – take your pick.

Our guided tours are always adapted to the given conditions, that means that depending on the swell the odd secret spot might come to light. On the other hand, you might, even as a beginner, be able to ride a reef break and then boast at the end of your holiday that you mastered Uluwatu. With our years of experience you’ll always be at the right spot at the right time!

BALI SURF CAMP BALANAGAN

Daily proceeds

On the evening before choose the surf sessions that suit you best – depending on your preferences and skills and simply enter your name in the list. If you’re really surf-crazy and not put off by the thought of an early-morning surf, you can do more than the usual two sessions a day. Our surf guides are there to help you make your choice.

Beginners
Balangan and the spots nearby are also suitable for beginners who already master a first green wave start.  For absolute beginners we would advise a stay in one of the other Camps, either in Seminyak or Canggu.

BALI SURF CAMP BALANGAN

Intermediates
For intermediate surfers Bali has a whole series of soft reef and semi-beach breaks in store. Perfect waves at long point breaks will push your skills and maybe even make you an advanced surfer by the end of your stay. With our experienced guides you can be at all the spots of the southern peninsula within 15 – 30 minutes: Dreamland, Impossibles or Uluwatu.

Advanced
In Balangan the advanced surfers really get their money’s worth . The best waves all round Bali are on our schedule: the legendary Airport breaks, the classic Bali waves such as Dreamland and Balangan or the world famous spots like Padang-Padang, Keramas or Uluwatu. As something of an institution here, we obviously know a few unknown and unsurfed waves – the ones the guidebooks don’t know.

The diversity and sheer perfection of the waves is enough to make any surfer's heart miss a beat. No matter what time of the year, Bali has a constant surf and ideal conditions for both beginners, intermediates and pro's.
And don't worry about the swell - that’s 100% guaranteed!

The Surf Camp complex is an authentic family business in keeping with Balinese style, with an eye for detail.

The bungalows are situated round the pool set in a tropical garden.

BALI SURFCAMP BALANGAN

The small hotel restaurant has tasty treats in store and also has a pool table and TV/DVD.

Traditional Bali houses are the ideal place to chill out between your surf sessions.

There’s always a wonderful view of the cliff-lined coast and you can look out over the sea as far Uluwatu .

If it gets too ‘relaxed’ (or even “boring”?!) in Balanagan, you can always head for the urban jungle of Kuta on your own or with a driver and, if you dare, shop – or party – till you drop.

Equipment, your own stuff

Our material pool has been put together to suit the conditions we have here: shortboards (6'0'' - 7'0''), funshapes and mini-malibus (7'0'' - 7'8'') for our beginners. We have boards for every level and all conditions.

Board shorts, booties and wax can be had here at reasonable prices. Leashes and lycras are included in the rental, however, possible repairs have to paid for.

If you want to be on the safe side as far as ding repair is concerned, you can “insure” your rental board – or your own one – for  € 25.
