BUKIT SURF LODGE

BUKIT SURF LODGE

Welcome to Kima’s Bukit Surf Lodge

The SURF LODGE is a small surf camp with a familiar atmosphere and a capacity of maximum 8 guests.  It is different from all other Kima Camps. With no own restaurant, we cook together or pick some fruits from the trees. Being located remotely, it means “Back to the Roots”. The camp is situated on the Bukit (Bali’s Southern peninsula) surrounded by beautiful nature, far away from crowded tourist- hot-spots like Kuta. You can find some small restaurants and supermarkets on the main road in about a 5 minute drive from the camp site.

Within a 10 minutes drive you will reach beautiful Balangan beach with its famous left hander, working at almost all tides and swells. Of course we will explore other surrounding surf beaches as well like Dreamland, Bingin, Padang Padang, Uluwatu and more. If you are a beginner and want to surf the easy beach breaks of Kuta and Seminyak you have to accept a longer car drive of about 40 and in the rush hour sometimes even 90 minutes, depending on traffic and destination.

THE TEAM

bukit lodge team

Our Bukit Surf Lodge is run by Natalie and Lisa, two long year Bali residents who share a passion for Bali and surfing.

They always do their best to make your holiday an unforgettable experience.

The Guide team is led by Tom from England who has worked for years in several other Kima Camps and who knows Bali breaks even better than his home spots back in the UK.

SURF GUIDING

BUKIT SURF LODGE

Monday to Friday we organise trips to various breaks all round Bali’s Southern Peninsula, The Bukit. What this means is that you can take part in two guided sessions per day. At the weekend you can join one of the inland Culture and Sport Trips organised by

Our guides are all trained in life-saving, they’re familiar with the island, drive safely and can give you competent briefing on the spot.  Here they’ll point out the characteristics of reef surfing or any potential hazards. The guides always surf with you in the water, giving you tips and showing you tricks.

At Balangan beach, one of Bali’s longest left-handers breaks and, if the swell is big enough, there may well be one or two tube sections as well. The sheer length of this wave means that it has several starting points, as well as varied sections – in a word, everything the surfer heart desires: whether steep or simple drops, sharp faces or smooth longboard sections, there’s something for everyone. Even advanced surfers can learn something here.
Dreamlands semi-beach breaks are perfect spots for intermediate and advanced. Apart from an A-frame peak there is a simple left- and right-hander and a fun shore break.

If you’ve done your homework you’ll know that all the spots from Balangan to Uluwatu are in the same bay, all connected by one and the same road. They’re ideal for intermediate and advanced surfers. From April to November constant south-west swells and off-shore winds ensure perfect waves, loads of point breaks and tubes. This way there’s always something on our daily surf schedule for our intermediate and advanced surfers: reef or sand substrate – take your pick.

Our guided tours are always adapted to the given conditions, that means that depending on the swell the odd secret spot might come to light..With our years of experience you’ll always be at the right spot at the right time!
If you are an absolute beginner, we offer a designated beginner package at the Bukit Surf Lodge, too. But you would have to take into consideration longer driving times (up to 90 minutes per way) to the west coast’s beach breaks around Seminyak.

Beginners
Beginners can take advantage of the very professional beginner training at the Bukit Surf Lodge, a combination of surf school and guided sessions. As the lodge itself is remote from the beginner spots at the west coast, you should prepare for long driving times up to 90 minutes per way. At high tide and on days with small swell some spots in the area around the camp can be surfed as a beginner.

Intermediates
For intermediate surfers Bali has a whole series of soft reef and semi-beach breaks in store. Perfect waves at long point breaks will push your skills and maybe even make you an advanced surfer by the end of your stay. With our experienced guides you can be at all the spots of the southern peninsula within 15 – 30 minutes: Dreamland, Impossibles, Mini Padang, or Uluwatu.

Advanced
In Balangan the advanced surfers really get their money’s worth. The best waves all round Bali are on our schedule: the legendary Airport breaks, the classic Bali waves such as Dreamland and Balangan or the world famous spots like Padang-Padang, Keramas or Uluwatu. As something of an institution here, we obviously know a few unknown and unsurfed waves – the ones the guidebooks don’t know.

The diversity and sheer perfection of the waves is enough to make any surfer's heart miss a beat. No matter what time of the year, Bali has a constant surf and ideal conditions for both beginners, intermediates and pro's.
And don't worry about the swell - that’s 100% guaranteed!

ACCOMMODATION

BUKIT SURF LODGEFor your comfort and to make sure you really enjoy your holiday, we've made every effort to create a genuine Bali feeling in our choice of accommodation.

The lodge can accommodate maximum 8 guests in single (queen size bads and fan ventilation), double (AC and kingsize beds) and more comfortable villa rooms (two villa rooms available, they share one bathroom). Refresh yourself in the pool amidst a lush tropical garden.

If it gets too ‘relaxed’ (or even “boring”?!) in Balanagan, you can always head for the urban jungle of Kuta on your own or with a driver and, if you dare, shop – or party – till you drop.

BOARD

BUKIT SURF LODGEThe cost of living on Bali is extremely low. A healthy and filling meal (fish plus a side dish) will cost around 3 €!!!

The warungs on the beaches also offer fruit salads and an ample nasi or mie goreng for just 1 €.

The obligatory evening beer on the beach is likely to be the most expensive thing on the menu of healthy indo food. Breakfast is inclusive – a choice of fruits and cereals.

As the lodge has no restaurant, we usually go out for dinner together or cook together in the camp kitchen

MOBILITY

BUKIT SURF LODGEWhether it’s shore break in Dreamland, reef of Bingin or Kuta´s beach breaks: our long-term experience of Bali promises to take you to the best waves all around the island.

Depending on the day's conditions, what the participants want to do and their surfing level, our guests take off in small groups by car over and around the island. This way you can take part in 10 surf sessions at the various spots in any one week.

But here on the island you don’t have to miss out on culture and other activities.  Hindu Bali offers not only endless temples, royal palaces and rice terraces in the island’s interior, the coastal towns have loads of opportunities for shopping, dining and hanging out with the right people.

MATERIAL

BUKIT SURF LODGEEquipment, your own stuff

Our material pool has been put together to suit the conditions we have here: shortboards (6'0'' - 7'0''), funshapes and mini-malibus (7'0'' - 7'8''). Our absolute beginners surf with our soft top foam boards for a safe start into surfing. We have boards for every level and all conditions.

If you don't mind the haul, please feel free to bring your own equipment or favourite board with you, so you can put them to the ultimate test here. Board shorts, booties and wax can be had here at reasonable prices. Leashes are included in the rental, however, possible repairs to the board and its peripherals have to be paid for.

If you want to be on the safe side as far as ding repair is concerned, you can “insure” your rental board for  € 20.That means that we will carry the costs for any repairs over a period of 1 – 3 weeks, whether it’s a tiny dent or a major break.

Any damage will of course be immediately and professionally repaired. If the whole board or parts of it get lost - for instance gone forever sailing over the wide, wide sea – the costs have to be borne by the user despite being insured.
