BALI BERAWA SURF COMMUNE
Surf and relax in the midst of rice paddies. Enjoy authentic Bali atmosphere combined with western comfort.
The Surf Commune Berawa, our small surf camp with familiar atmosphere is designed for maximum 14 camp guests.
Here you can relax and enjoy the typical Bali view of lush and green rice paddies whilst having a cool drink at the pool or on the roof top terrace after a good surf.
Who wants to have a little quiet and get away from the hectic and crowded tourist hotspots such as Kuta, has chosen perfectly with staying at the Kima Surf Commune Berawa.
The camp is situated between Seminyak and Canggu in the little town of Berawa. Our homebreak Berawa Beach is reachable with a 5-minute car ride and provides optimum conditions for advanced beginners and intermediate surfers.
The various beach breaks of Kuta and Seminyak which are perfectly suitable for beginner surfers are about 15 to 20 minutes car away. The famous surf spots of Canggu are even closer and offer powerful waves for advanced surfers.
Of course we also provide at the Surf Commune our surf guiding to all Bali surf spots.
Phillip and Ary take care lovingly for your welfare during your stay at the Surf WG. Phillip is a Swiss expatriate living the last few years in Bali and has now fulfilled the dream of owning a surf camp with his Balinese wife Ary.
Phillip and his experienced team of Indo surf guides, consisting of Dono, Rizal and Pande, ensure that you always surf the right surf spot on the right tide, matching your surfing level. The surf guides are always with you in the water to give helpful advices and assistance.
Another great soul of the camp is the well-bred Labrador dog Candy, which is always in for a caress and loves to be a part of the surf camp life.
Kima Bali Surf Camp’s big plus is that surf guiding is inclusive – 2 times per day!
Monday to Friday we organise daily surf trips for all surf levels to various breaks all round Bali. What this means is that you can take part in at least two guided surf session per week- day. The surf spots we head for are graded according to the various surf levels and selected depending on the tide, swell and wind conditions.
Our surf guides are familiar with the island, drive safely and give you competent briefing on each surf spot. The guides always surf with you in the water, giving you helpful advice to bring your surfing to the next level. Once a week the sessions are filmed so that the analysis afterwards can help you identify the mistakes you’re making and sort these out.
On the evening before choose the surf sessions that suit you best – depending on your preferences and skills and simply enter your name in the list. Our surf guides will be pleased to help you make your choice.
Total surf beginners can book our Learn-to-Surf Package which includes 3 days of surf school with beginner friendly soft-top surf boards. We offer this package in collaboration with the licensed Rip Curl School of Surf which is situated in Legian Beach (Seminyak/Kuta). Please find more information about the Learn-to-Surf Package in our section “specials”.
Who rules the take-off and paddling already can directly participate in our regular surf guiding. Perfect conditions for beginners provide the numerous beach breaks of Kuta, the "home break" Berawa and the gentle semi-beach breaks of Batu Bolong and Old Man's.
Beside of Berawa Beach, Bali offers a whole series of soft reef breaks and semi-beach breaks for intermediate surfers. Many perfect waves nearby or famous spots a bit further away will push your skills and maybe even make you an advanced surfer by the end of your stay.
Of course it is also the advanced surfers that really get their money’s worth on Bali. The powerful reef breaks of Canggu, e.g. Perenenan or Echo Beach are reachable within a 10 minutes car ride only and are best-suitable to bring your surf maneuvers to perfection. Further wave highlights all round Bali are on our schedule as well: the legendary Airport breaks, the classic Bali waves such as Dreamland and Balangan or the world famous spots like Padang-Padang, Keramas or Uluwatu. Please calculate a car ride of minimum 50 minutes to reach this surf spots.
Completed in 2012, the facility consists of a main house and a villa with comfortable and modern furnishings in Balinese style. The two buildings are separated by a small restaurant and garden with views of rice fields and lush Balinese nature.
The main house has a pool with a chill-terrace, a communal kitchen with dining area and a TV lounge under the roof, as well as a generous sunset - roof terrace.
The four air-conditioned rooms in the main house consist of two rooms with a bunk bed each and shared bathroom, one 4-bed room with two bunk beds and private bathroom and a double room with queen-size bed and private bathroom.
The villa has a pool as well and sports a rooftop lounge with a magnificent view over the rice terraces.
The living room with flat screen TV, stereo and DVD is equipped with a slide glass front, and together with the fully equipped kitchen provides the living area for the two deluxe rooms.
One room is a double room with king-size bed, the other is a twin deluxe room with 2 single beds. Both rooms are equipped with air conditioning and private bathrooms.
The cost of living on Bali is extremely low. A healthy and filling meal (fish including a side dish) will cost around 2 €!! There are lots of local cuisine restaurants near the hotel.
The obligatory evening beer on the beach is likely to be the most expensive thing on the menu of healthy indo food. Fruit salads or nasi or mie goring can be had for 1 € even on the most remote beaches.
The night includes breakfast, either consisting of Mie/Nasi Goreng, pancakes with fresh fruits or toast with eggs. Each of those breakfasts comes with fresh fruit juice or fruit salad and tea or coffee.
The small restaurant offers lunch and dinner with various European and Asian dishes. There is also a changing daily special available.
Who loves to do one’s own cooking can use the kitchen in the villa or the main house, of course.
The major concept of the Kima Bali Surf Camp is to get to know what's near and far in Bali.
Here on the island you don’t have to miss out on culture and other activities, you can book those additionally on location. Hindu Bali offers not only endless temples, royal palaces and rice terraces in the island’s interior, the coastal towns have loads of opportunities for shopping, dining and hanging out with the right people.
For the sports fans there is a wide spectrum: diving, wake/kiteboarding, stand-up paddling, volcano trekking, rafting, mountain biking or tree top climbing.
Phillip and Ary are happy to assist you with organisation and booking of such trips. The camp cars with driver or guide can be booked on week-ends for a reasonable price.
Those who love sets off on his own and is not afraid of the Balinese traffic can rent a scooter to get to the beach, the supermarket or for shopping trips to Kuta / Seminyak (international driving license required).
We have various surf boards in all kind of shapes available. If you don't mind the haul, feel free to bring your own equipment or favourite board with you, so you can put them to the ultimate test here. Board shorts, booties, and wax can be had here at reasonable prices.
Leashes are included in the rental, however, possible repairs of the board have to paid for. If you want to be on the safe side as far as ding repair is concerned, you can “insure” your rental board for € 25. That means that we will carry the costs for any repairs over a period of 1 – 3 weeks, whether it’s a tiny dent or a major break.
Any damage will of course be immediately and professionally repaired. If the board or parts of it get lost - for instance gone forever sailing over the wide, wide sea – the costs have to be borne by the user.
